Hi and welcome to my newest pet project, Project 365 2013. It’s a new year and I have new goals, well, some goals are the same. I want to improve my photography.
I finally finished my Project 365 2012. It was difficult and a bit of a drainer at times. It was also very inspiring and satisfying to actual finish something that had a finite end, unlike a lot of other things I start and never finish. So where to from here?
This year I have decided to do a modified 365, in that I won’t necessarily take a photo every single day, but I will post a photo a day. I think that will take some of the pressure off me and take some of the angst out of the project that I found last year, to make it a much more enjoyable experience. It will also improve the quality of the photos I’m taking as well, instead of just taking whatever random photo of what I can see from my bed to fill the necessary quota. Part of me became a little resentful of Project 365 because I was short on ideas and wasn’t happy with my shots. I want to do things that make me happy, so tweaking it a little to suit my needs makes sense to me.
I found it quite difficult not having a proper theme last year as well. I’ve had a long hard think about it and I think I’ve come up with something that I like and is doable. Inspired by these type of photos “From Where I Stand” that Allison from Snippets of Suburbia has done so brilliantly, where you take photos of your feet and your surroundings, I’ve decided to shoot from my feet. I’ve so logically named this theme The World At My Feet.
I’m thinking that everything will be shot from the ground (or at least a flat surface, or near enough to the ground… I don’t want to ruin my camera) with my 50mm lens and go from there. I’ll see how long I can go for, but at least it gives me some direction and something to aim for rather than just being lost and random.
