Waiting

Waiting

We decided to get some take away dumplings for dinner from our favourite local dumpling joint because we couldn’t be bothered cooking tonight. There are so many places to pick from, but we love this place. It doesn’t have good signage, so when we meet up with friends we have to say that it’s the dumpling place next to the Club X. It sounds seedy, but it’s actually a nice place with good and cheap food. While we waited for our order, we got some complimentary tea. I love the cute little cups.

Worst Blood Test Ever!

Worst Blood Test Ever!

I went to the doctor’s on the weekend for some routine check ups, and she wanted to run some blood tests as well. I’ve never had any issues with blood tests. My veins are easy to find and I have good blood flow. The only time I’ve ever had issues with when I gave blood for the first time and the nurse tied the thing around my arm too tightly and stopped all the blood flow. I’ve never had any issues until now.

Incompetent is putting it lightly. This woman seemed to have no clue, and she was a bit older so I don’t think it was because she was inexperienced. She took almost 5 minutes to find a vein, when I know I have 3 big usable veins in my left arm. She then tied the thing around my arm too tightly because she couldn’t find the vein, which then cut off my blood supply and gave me pins and needles in my fingers. She then complained that there wasn’t enough blood and asked if I was hydrated. Yes, I always drink a lot of water. She discarded the half filled vial and seemed to be really annoyed with me. She had to start again on my other arm. I suspect that she missed the vein because it was hideously bruised. I was not impressed.

This time she hit the vein, got some blood, but I have a feeling that she went through the vein when she jiggled the needle to get more blood because the picture above is what it looks like today. It hurt like crazy at the time, it hurt like crazy afterwards, and it hurts now. She then said I must just be the type to bruise easily, like it was my fault. I really should make speaking my mind one of my new year’s resolutions because I was fuming. What I should I have said was that “No, I don’t bruise easily. I’ve never had issues with blood tests, and it’s not my fault that you’re completely incompetent and crap at your job!” Instead I just smiled meekly and got out of there as fast as I could.

I’ll probably have to wear long sleeved shirts for the next few days so that I don’t scare my clients, and also put up with my husband’s endearing new nickname of Meth Addict Arms.

Sorry about the rant, but it’s a bit upsetting and I’m annoyed that I didn’t say anything at the time. As much as I’d like to make a complaint about her, I know that I won’t. All I know is that the next time I go for a blood test, there is no way I am letting her touch me!

Hugs

Hugs

We’re taking care of our friends’ bunny for a few weeks while they’re away, so expect lots of rabbit photos for the rest of project 365!

Cloudy has had a very adventurous day. We’ve built up some barriers around the TV, shelves and cables. We also blocked the entrances into the hallway with some obstacles. He tried to make a break for it today by jumping over the barriers. Clearly we underestimated how high he could jump. He’s also been trying to jump onto the couch, which we’ve deemed a no no.

Cloudy is a very difficult bunny to catch. I’m not sure he likes being touched that much, but after chasing him for a while he eventually gives up and submits by lying flat on the ground. Once he’s in your arms though, he seems quite happy to have hugs. He’s almost as hairy as the husband’s arms.

Visitor

Temporary Visitor

We are bunny-sitting over Christmas for some lucky friends that have gone on holiday. His name is Cloudy and he is just the cutest thing ever. He was very shy to begin with and it took him a while to adjust to the floorboards, but as he slowly gets used to us, he’s becoming more adventurous.

He’s a very curious bunny and we’ve given him free reign of the living room and kitchen, after the husband rabbit proofed all the cables (“if he eats through this cable we won’t have any internet and I won’t be happy!” he says). We had to chase him down to get him back into his pen overnight. Either he was really scared, or he thought it was a fun game to try and out run us. He’s so cute though, so it’s hard to be annoyed with him.

Red

Red

Christmas is fast approaching. I don’t really buy into the whole Christmas cheer and presents. We used to celebrate Christmas when we were younger, with the tree and food and family, but as we got older, Christmas holds much less meaning for me, not being Christian and all. Chinese New Year is more my thing.

Now that I’m older parts of Christmas feel very empty, like perpetuating a lie for children, annoying Christmas carols being played in shopping centres, all the hype and commercialism. I guess you could consider me somewhat of a Scrooge.

However, I still do love shiny sparkly things like Christmas decorations. It also helps that red is my favourite colour.

Utensils

Utensils

I had a busy Saturday today, mostly filled with eating in cheap but delicious Asian places. I went to my friend’s family fitness session, which wasn’t easy in the heat. I was like 30 degrees when we started this morning, but she took it easy on us. It still doesn’t mean I won’t be hurting tomorrow because I’m pretty unfit! We then went out for lunch at Laksa King.

In the evening we met up with our usual group of friends as a pre-Christmas thing at Pappa Rich. You’ve gotta love places where everyone’s cutlery self serve on the table and you write your own order on a pad. Good cheap food and good times.

Day 16 – Auckland to Cathedral Cove to Auckland

We finally found a beach that has sand instead of rocks, just like an Australian beach. We tried our hand at sea kayaking and we surprisingly worked well as a team. It was a bit of hard work and the husband would call me a slacker every time I needed a break. The guides were really good, gave us good instructions and were very knowledgeable. It was quite windy the further our we got from shore. I almost lost my hat, but thanks to my lightning fast reflexes (usually they’re pretty slow and lazy so it was surprising) I managed to rescue it. It was a beautiful way to see Cathedral Cove.

After grabbing some lunch we headed down to Cathedral Cove the old fashioned way, which involved a bit of walking in the heat. I didn’t take the SLR because I was worried about all the sand, and I even put my phone in a glad bag because the husband freaked me out about the sand scratching up the screen. It was a shame, but I also quite like not taking photos and just enjoying the experience. I think part of me just wants to take photos because my memory is rubbish and photos help me to remember exactly what it was like to be there.

We also tried the hot water beach, but we went at the wrong time for it. We took a stroll along the beach but it was windy and the sand kept whipping up like sandpaper. At least my legs were nice and exfoliated in a really painful kind of way!

Cute Cupcake

It was the last day for one of the students today and she brought us in some of the cutest looking chocolates I’ve even seen, shaped like cupcakes. Here’s one sitting on my desk that I’ve already taken a chunk out of before taking a photo. It was a good idea to give them to us just before I did her final assessment!

Project 365 2012 – Day 313

Greedy

We often have snails munching on our mail. I don’t mind it so much when it’s junk mail, but when it’s important things like registration, insurance or bills, it becomes a slight inconvenience. I don’t think the excuse “Oh, I didn’t pay this quarter because a snail ate my electricity bill” is a good enough for the power company.

So even though I don’t like it, snail baiting around the letter box seems to be the best solution. This poor little guy is well and truly gone, but at least I can still read my mail.

Project 365 2012 – Day 310

NRRTW

Happy National Radiographer and Radiation Therapist week! To celebrate this weird and made up week, we got some balloons from our professional body and kicked them around the office. We also got some little badges and suspicious looking lolly pops as well. It’s a really bizarre thing to celebrate if you ask me, but hey, it entertained us for 5 minutes today.

Project 365 2012 – Day 307

To The Ground

It’s been a really long week at work and it’s been crazily short staffed. I feel burnt out and tired and no one was in a good mood today. I also have a heap of work to do next week and I’m working tomorrow on a Saturday. Although my day turned around when I went over to my parents for dinner and the made Bun Xeo (Vietnamese pancake). No photos of the food because I was so hungry that I devoured it before thinking of taking a photo, so I’ll have to settle for this photo of the ground.

Project 365 2012 – Day 305

Blank

It’s the first time this year that I’ve completely forgotten to take a photo. On the days that I ‘forget’ I usually figure it out when I’m hopping into bed, but yesterday I just completely forgot. I’m really disappointed in myself, but I can’t go back into the past to change it. Hopefully I won’t make the same mistake again.

So here’s a sad empty filler.
